Farnham is a Georgian town with an interesting history in South West Surrey and part of the borough of Waverley. It is just ten minutes from Guildford and Woking and an hour drive away from London. We may be biased as the Shomraat is based in Farnham but it is a beautiful place to visit and live in. what makes it beautiful are the Georgian houses there are also Tudor, Roman, Saxon and even evidence of Stone Age dwellings, meaning that the architecture is extremely interesting.
Many visitors choose to go to tourist attractions such as Farnham Castle, which was built in Noman times and has an interesting chapel and tower as well as carvings. The town museum is also worth a visit with information about the history of the town and area. You will also want to visit Farnham Park which has a tree lined avenue as well as large children’s play area. On the fourth Sunday of each month there is an impressive farmers market in the town as well as a regular country market. And you cannot forget the famous and popular arts and entertainment centre the Farnham Maltings which is a hub of this town.
There are plenty of other places to get food and drink as well. Everything form small coffee shops to fine dining, you will find a venue that will suit you and your needs serving everything from local produce to international items. There are independent cafes and high street coffee shops as well as many pubs and brasseries to get lunches. There are lovely venues for afternoon tea as well as a huge choice of places to choose from for an evening meal with eat in and take away options available in every imaginable choice. There is even the local brewery Hogs Back if you fancy trying the finest English ales.
If you like art then you will enjoy discovering the selection of galleries, pottery and Sculpture Park. There is even a crafts study centre and university of creative arts if you want to study art. For families there are many things to do too. As well as the park there are ponds, the abbey, museum, library and Birdworld to visit. There is a Heritage Trail, National Trust gardens and parks so if you want to be outdoors, there are some lovely things to discover. There is even a Gruffalo Trail in Alice Holt woods. If you are planning a longer stay then you may like to enjoy some of the concerts, celebrations and festivals that happen regularly in the town. Many people enjoy the shopping in Farnham too. As well as the markets and eating places, there are plenty of other shops as well. You will find many high street brands but also independent shops too. There are many shopping streets to discover with a selection of shops to suit all tastes and budgets. There is even a selection of vintage items and antique shops that you can visit, some just outside of the main town.
The town also has a strong sporting tradition with the town hosting multiple sports club like Farnham Town FC, Farnham Cricket Club and the Farnham Rugby club. With so many green fields, it so no wonder why the town loves sports.
So whether you like history, walking, countryside, shopping, eating or playing, there will be something at Farnham that suits you. With it being so close to other big towns and London, it means that you are also not far away from other places which have even more to do.
